CLOTH! is the New Diaper

A place for updates concerning the opening of my diaper shop!

Moving… October 13, 2009

We’re moving!

Not physically, lol… but I am going to discontinue using this blog and start utilizing Facebook. So, if you aren’t already a fan, please become one!

I’ll be using FB much like I used this blog–post updates, upcoming fabrics, tester information, pictures of diapers before they are put up on HC…

It will be easier for me so I’m not all over the place. The blog will remain open/available but it won’t be updated.

Cotton diapers October 11, 2009

I am working on OSFM-snappiable/pinable diapers made of 100% cotton (excluding the elastic, of course). These are going to be up-cycled as well–made from t-shirts. I am super excited to make these! What a great way to help the environment not only by cloth diapering, but by recycling too!

Pricing is going to be very economical.

Contests are great fun and I love doing them. I’ll be launching a new contest soon where each person who buys a OSFM diaper through my HC will be entered into a random drawing for two custom diapers–FREE of charge.

Details coming soon!

I’ve got a rave for Lyn of “Get Hooked”. She crocheted my son a pair of longies and we are in love.

Fleece Nights September 28, 2009

So that is the name of the fleece night time diaper I am going to be stocking. Like it? ;)

I hope to have a couple of these stocked for the 1st. DS is asleep in one right now. It is stuffed with a large and small BG insert and a 3layer hemp insert which is backed by a layer of fleece. And I put some cotton sweat pants on over him so if there are any leaks… I’ll know!

OSFM fitteds will be going up… I’ll have 4 of these (2 boy and 2 girl). These won’t be the new style, these will be the same as the past ones with the sewn-in soakers. The new style with the snap-in soakers will, hopefully, debut on the Oct. 15th stocking.

I purchased a Rumparoo pocket diaper off a swap board the other day. I am excited for it to arrive. I really dislike sewing PUL (and dislike PUL covers even more, lol) but I hope I like this diaper. I got the G2 Gumball print. It is super cute!

I also snagged a *gasp* BSRB off swap. I refuse to pay full price for any fitted as I *hellloooo* make fabulous fitteds (if I do say so myself!) so I was glad to find a cute argyle print one for $16 in EUC. I also want to get a Goodmama, and maybe another fitted and be able to post pictures of my boy wearing each of them for comparison against my fitteds.

I’ll report back in the AM re the Fleece Nights and if we had any leaks. :)

UPDATE: The bed, the pants… everything was dry! The inserts were soaked…and the fleece was a tad damp, but everything else was dry! Yay!

Updates, again :) September 26, 2009

So… Instead of making sized diapers, I think I am going to just offer snaps on the OSFM. Truth be told, I don’t want to make a bunch of sized diapers and then be stuck with them cause no one buys them. LOL. And, it takes a lot of time to make OSFM and sized diapers with snaps. Those who tested and might be interested in purchasing sized diapers, I would consider doing them on a custom-slot basis. JLMK.

I put snaps on the OSFM fitteds I made for Rowan and I really like the snaps. I think I’ll be ready to offer snaps with the Oct 1st stocking.

I am also considering taking out the internal soaker in the fitteds, and making a snap-in soaker to go along with the diapers. The diaper “shell” would be a bamboo velour inner, and cotton knit outter. And the snap-in soaker would be available as an add-on option. The “shell” would be priced at $14, with the snap-in soaker priced for another $4.  So, those are my thoughts. I like the OSFM fitteds as they are, but I have to agree with a few testers that the drying time is a bit longer than it needs to be.

And, of course, I am working on the Fleece Nights pocket diaper.  I plan to have a few of those up for the Oct 1st stocking. They are OSFM, snappiable, pinnable. I’ll probably offer the option to add snaps to those as well. Rowan wore his last night with one large BGinsert, a small BG insert and a hemp insert. I backed the bottom insert with a layer of fleece and put a pair of fleece longies on him over the Fleece Nights diaper. Not a leak, and the longies weren’t even damp on the inside. The inserts, however, were saturated! Love I tell ya! Love!

Anyways, I’d love to hear feedback regarding these ideas.

Spots opening soon for testers! September 21, 2009

Ok, I am thisclose to finishing my pattern… actually, I think it is done. I just have to make some diapers, lol. I’ll probably do 2 medium test slots an 2 small test slots–these are for the snapping, sized, fitted diapers. These spots will be up on my HC soon and available to purchase with in the next few days. The price is for the cost of materials and of course, you’d pay shipping. These diapers are going to be made of the same materials I will be using on the final product (bamboo velour, bamboo fleece).

Also, I have experimented with an overnight diaper and I am IN LOVE. While I love our wool, this diaper is just super easy. It is a fleece outter, grand flannel inner, pocket diaper. You stuff with inserts (one will be provided as it will be fleece backed to make the diaper essentially bullet proof) of your choice. For comparison: Rowan sometimes wears his BG3.0s overnights. I stuff them with the two inserts that come with the diaper plus a 3-layer hemp insert. We almost always get leaks. No matter what combination of inserts I use, we get leaks. With these fleece pockets, we don’t get leaks. And they are pretty trim as well. The other night he work the fleece pocket fastened with a snappi (stuffed with 2 hemp and 1 thin MF) and some fleece shorties over it and the fleece was dry as a bone but the inserts were soaked.
